We always love the idea of having noodles with all our favourite toppings in a convenient package. So to celebrate World Curry Day we made a Maggi Kari in a Jar!
” All your noodle happiness in a jar! “
How many packets of Maggi Kari are eaten in our country? Our scientific and thorough research (well, ‘guess’ is the more accurate term) tells us that Malaysians eat a GAZILLION packets a year… anyway, you get the point. So in conjunction with World Curry Day recently, Maggi challenged us to come up with something fun and creative for their Maggi Kari. Game on!
First things first, we made the tastiest but simplest version of the noodles. To add punch to the noodles we added a tiny drizzle of concentrated chicken stock and a small spoonful of powdered creamer. Poached chicken, baby ‘pak choy’, straw mushrooms and chillies complete it. Yum! Of course, you guys can add an egg too, but we love the clean tasting Maggi Kari broth.
Now here comes the creative part.
Here’s a killer way to make the best ever Maggi Kari noodles that you can prep at home and bring it to work or on an excursion. Here’s what you guys need:
• 1 packet Maggi 2-Minute Noodles Kari Flavour
• ¼ teaspoon powdered creamer
• 2 Tbp cooked chicken meat, shredded
• Some baby bok choy leaves, trimmed of the root
• Straw mushrooms, halved
• Crispy fried tofu, cut into chunks
• Red chilli, thinly sliced
• ¼ teaspoon concentrated chicken stock or powder
• A tight-sealing mason jar
• Boiling water
First of all, boil the noodles for 2-minutes in plain boiling water. Once they’re cooked, immediately take it out and drain off the liquid. Set aside to dry out a bit.
Next up, get a mason jar. It should be one that can be sealed tight. Clean it well! We actually sterilized ours with boiling water and wiped it dry before use.
Now shake in the Maggi Kari seasoning, then add the creamer. Mix it up.
Layer it up with mushrooms, cooked and cooled noodles and baby ‘pak choy’ (make sure you trim off the ends). It’s best to use soft green vegetables that can be put in raw. But if you want to use other vegetables like carrots or green beans, make sure they’re cut into small pieces. Or just blanch them beforehand.
Now add the shredded cooked chicken and crispy tofu. Remember, it’s a good idea to use leftovers for this recipe too, in case you have some. No wastage = good!
Sprinkle some chillies and we’re almost done! For a final touch of flavour, spoon in chicken stock.
Well there you go. Your Maggi Kari in a jar is good to go to follow you where no Maggi Kari has gone before. All it needs now is for you to be hungry, because that’s when you add in the boiling water…
… give it a good stir or a shake, and enjoy! For optimum flavour, we recommend eating it within 2 hours.
Isn’t this cool? This is all about packing loads of flavour into a creative yet effective mode of transport. Bring this to work and you don’t need to find a bowl plus the glass jar is thick enough to handle hot water so it’s safe. This is also a great way to use up leftovers like, say last-night’s roasted chicken scraps, stir fried vegetables or canned pantry items (like mushrooms!) Be creative! Add your favourite toppings and ingredients. Just make sure they’re already cooked and cooled and cut into small, bite size pieces.
Now here’s an idea, the arty look of your Maggi Kari In A Jar is perfect for a little romantic picnic (with a separate thermos of hot water)… and why not take one in your bag with you and celebrate all things curry? You can enjoy it with your fellow curry fans.
Happy World Curry Day!
